The top priority recruit on either side of the ball for the Longhorns in the 2024 class is the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher, Colin Simmons.

The nation’s top-ranked edge rusher recruit in the 2024 class and the top prospect out of Texas for this cycle, Simmons, started trending to the Longhorns since his official visit to the 40 last weekend. Texas knocked it out of the park with Simmons during his June 23-25 official visit to Austin.

It sounded like that was Simmons’ best visit to Texas yet. The successful visit moved Texas firmly into pole position in the race to land Simmons’ commitment this summer.

Since the official visit started last weekend, roughly a half-dozen forecasts were entered projecting Simmons’ commitment to Texas. One of those forecasts even came from an insider from another school’s site (Oregon).

Texas will continue to make Simmons its top priority in the 2024 class heading into the fall.

If Texas keeps building momentum in this recruitment the way it has in the last few weeks, there is a good chance that the staff can get Simmons to move up his decision timeline. Getting Simmons to move up his timeline to get into this class as soon as possible would be the best scenario for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail.
