Texas football received a huge 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction for a top target in the 2024 recruiting class on June 29, the elite five-star St. Louis University (MO) wide receiver Ryan Wingo.

It’s not only the caliber of recruit that Wingo is for head coach Steve Sarkisian, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns in the 2024 class that makes this crystal ball prediction so significant. The source of the crystal ball is also important since it came from 247Sports national recruiting director Steve Wiltfong.

Receiving a crystal ball prediction from Wiltfong is usually about as trustworthy as it gets from any one source on any of the major recruiting services. He is obviously very well-connected as the 247Sports national recruiting director.

Texas football gets a big crystal ball prediction for 5-Star WR Ryan Wingo from Steve Wiltfong

But he also has not missed on any of the crystal balls he entered projecting commitments to Texas in the 2024 cycles so far, at least among those that have announced decisions up to this point. He was the first to enter a 247Sports crystal ball projecting Gibson to commit to Texas back in late February.

Wiltfong clearly has a good track record with this stuff.

Moreover, Wiltfong entered this crystal ball prediction projecting the Longhorns to land Wingo’s commitment with six out of 10 confidence.

Wiltfong sees Texas as the biggest riser in the race to land a commitment from Wingo after he had a successful official visit to Austin from June 16-18. He reported on June 29 that he gives “the edge to Texas with Missouri coming on strong” after he made an official visit to Columbia last weekend to see Mizzou.

This report from Wiltfong also mentions that the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers remain in the mix in this recruitment after the initial round of summer official visits for Wingo.

All in all, it’s not surprising that Texas made such a big move with Wingo coming out of his official visit a couple of weekends ago. We talked on the site about how Texas gave itself a “legit shot” to land Wingo’s commitment after the coaches and players that connected with the elite Missouri wideout recruit did such a great job during his official visit.

Wingo is arguably the highest-rated priority WR target for Texas in the 2024 class

Now that five-star Temple (TX) Lake Belton wide receiver target Micah Hudson is likely bound to commit to the Texas Tech Red Raiders this summer, Wingo is arguably the top wideout target in the Longhorns 2024 class.

During Wingo’s official visit a couple of weekends ago, Texas certainly gave the impression that he is the top out-of-state wideout priority in the 2024 class this summer. And it sounds like Sark, Jackson, and the Longhorns are keeping their foot on the gas with Wingo as the communication only picked up with the five-star wideout in the week following his Texas official visit.

While there is still a ways to go in this recruitment, Texas sits in a great position right now in the race to land a commitment from Wingo heading into the dead period in July. We’ll see if Texas can do anything to move Wingo’s decision timeline up once the dead period lifts late next month.
