Texas football recruiting is scorching hot in the 2024 class this summer. In the last few weeks alone, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian picked up commitments from a whopping half-dozen blue-chip recruits in the 2024 class. All the blue-chip commits for Texas in the 2024 class this month were official visitors in Austin in the last two weekends (June 16-18 and June 23-25).

Sark and the Longhorns staff started this run on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class during the first big official visit weekend of the month, specifically on June 17. Texas landed the undervalued and potent four-star Scottsdale (AZ) Desert Mountain cornerback Santana Wilson on June 17.

The next five blue-chip commitments were highlighted by the powerful four-star North Richland Hills (TX) Richland interior offensive lineman Daniel Cruz on June 28 and the elite four-star IMG Academy running back Jerrick Gibson on June 24.

Texas is now up to eight commitments in the 2024 class as of the writing of this article late in the morning of June 30. But it sounds like more additions are on the way very shortly in the 2024 class.

Top 2024 recruits on commitment watch for Texas football in first July weekend

Here’s a look at three commitments the Longhorns could get in the 2024 class this weekend.

A big decision date for a priority out-of-state Texas defensive back target in the 2024 class is July 1 at 2 p.m. CT. The highly touted four-star IMG Academy safety Jordan Johnson-Rubell will announce his commitment on the afternoon of July 1.

There is a good chance that Johnson-Rubell will be the first safety to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class upon his announcement this weekend.

Johnson-Rubell decides between the TCU Horned Frogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas. Texas holds the pole position in this recruitment heading into decision day for Johnson-Rubell, and I don’t see that changing in the next 24 hours or so.
