Texas Football: 3 commitments the Longhorns could land this weekend
Kobe Black, CB
Two of the biggest decisions we’re watching in late June/early July are from top in-state defensive back priority recruits in the 2024 class.
The first is the high-four-star Lancaster defensive back Corian Gipson. The insanely-talented blue-chip defensive back recruit out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is considered a Texas lean since he made it out of his official visit on the weekend of June 9 to see the Clemson Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney uncommitted.
Clemson and Texas are still duking it out in the race to land a commitment from Gipson this summer. Yet, since his official visit to Texas last weekend, we’ve had Gipson on commitment watch heading into early July.
The other top priority defensive back recruit in the 2024 class for the Longhorns that we’re watching this week is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The top rated-cornerback recruit in the state of Texas in the 2024 class was on commitment watch since he wrapped up a successful official visit to Texas last weekend.
Steve Wiltfong reported on June 29 that Texas “continued to impress” Black in a big way during his official visit last weekend.
With Johnson-Rubell and Gipson potentially both committing to Texas next month, that could open up the floodgates for other top DB priorities, such as Black, to jump in this class. We could be looking at a situation where Texas has its best and deepest defensive back recruiting class in more than a decade if it can land Black, along with the other top guys on the board, such as Johnson-Rubell and Gipson (among others).
Make no mistake, though, Black is the top cornerback priority for the Longhorns in the 2024 class this summer.
