Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns next commit after big Saturday
Kobe Black, CB
Decision date: TBD
The top priority defensive back target in the Longhorns 2024 class this summer is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The top-ranked defensive back recruit in-state in the 2024 class is one of the top two priorities in this class, along with five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons.
Black is viewed as an immediate impact cornerback that could immediately compete for a starting job at the boundary spot, assuming redshirt junior corner Ryan Watts declares early for the 2024 NFL Draft.
There is no decision date set for Black. But a summer decision timeline is very possible given the buzz that Texas generated in this recruitment in the last few months.
Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns made a big move in this recruitment during the spring. Texas took the lead in this recruitment in the spring. No other school has made a real dent in the Longhorns’ lead in the race to land a commitment from Black this summer.
After getting Johnson-Rubell in this class this weekend, it wouldn’t surprise me if Black and four-star Lancaster (TX) safety Corian Gipson jumped in at some point in the next few weeks. The spots in this potentially elite defensive back class for the Longhorns in 2024 will become tight, but Gipson and Black clearly hold the top priority.
Inside Texas recently mentioned Black and Gipson as two of the next blue chips to watch to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class in July.
