The biggest single day on the recruiting trail for Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian in the 2024 class thus far occurred on July 1. Texas landed three blue-chip commitments in the span of a few hours on July 1.

The first commitment for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2024 class on the afternoon of July 1 came from four-star Lucas (TX) Lovejoy wide receiver Parker Livingstone. Less than two hours after landing Livingstone, Texas reeled in a pledge from the powerful and disruptive four-star Duncanville defensive lineman Alex January.

And then, Texas landed a commitment from the highly touted four-star IMG Academy safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell to round out the blue-chip haul on July 1.

Texas finished a big day on the recruiting trail on July 1 with 11 commitments in the 2024 class. This comes less than one month after Texas had less than half this number of pledges in the 2024 class.

Official visit season vaults Texas football in the 2024 recruiting class rankings

The biggest reason for this wave of momentum for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class was the two successful official visit weekends in June (June 16-18 and June 23-25). Each of the nine commitments the Longhorns landed in the last three weeks was official visitors on those two big weekends in June.

And it sounds like more activity on the recruiting trail is on the way for the Longhorns in the 2024 class in the near future. For now, though, it’s worth recognizing that Texas is one of the hottest schools on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class this summer.

Where Texas’ 2024 class ranks according to the major recruiting services

Here is where Texas stands in the 2024 class according to the major recruiting services (247Sports, Rivals, and On3).

  • 247Sports Composite: 29th nationally, 1st in Big 12
  • Rivals: 29th nationally, 1st in Big 12
  • On3: 16th nationally, 1st in Big 12
  • ESPN: TBD (not updated since June 22)

Texas has not only jumped into the top 30 in the national class rankings for the 2024 cycle in each major recruiting service, but it has also vaulted to the top of the Big 12. The Longhorns overtook the Texas Tech Red Raiders for the top spot in the Big 12 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and Rivals.

Texas also took the top spot in the 2024 Big 12 recruiting class ranks from the Oklahoma Sooners in the On3 industry rankings.
