An upcoming commitment date to watch for a top target of the Longhorns 2024 class this month involves the high-four-star Lancaster (TX) defensive back Corian Gipson. The highly touted 6-foot and 170-pound South Dallas defensive back is one of this class’s most highly coveted prospects for safeties coach Blake Gideon, co-DC Pete Kwiatkowski, and the Longhorns.

Gipson set a commitment date for July 22 at Lancaster High School. He’ll decide between the Alabama Crimson Tide, TCU Horned Frogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, and Texas. But the latter two schools of the five mentioned are expected to be who Gipson decides between on July 22.

Texas and Clemson set the pace in this recruitment since the spring. And while Clemson held the momentum in the race to land a commitment from Gipson at one point earlier this offseason, the Longhorns were out in front in the last month or so.

Gideon and the Longhorns moved the needle in a big way with Gipson during his official visit on the last full weekend of June.

If Texas’ recent momentum in this recruitment and a successful official visit in late June weren’t enough to convince that it holds the lead heading into decision day, Gipson’s childhood friend just committed to Texas on July 1. Johnson-Rubell’s commitment last weekend could really open the floodgates for the Longhorns to fill up this defensive back class in July.
