Texas Football: Elite blue-chip DB target Corian Gipson sets decision date
A top priority in-state defensive back target of the 2024 Texas football recruiting class, the high-four-star Lancaster (TX) safety Corian Gipson, is set to announce his commitment in late July. On3 reported on July 6 that Gipson “will announce his commitment on July 22” at Lancaster High School.
The post from On3 on Twitter on July 6 setting the commitment date for Gipson included five schools he’ll decide between. The top five schools for Gipson’s decision date on July 22 are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, Clemson Tigers, TCU Horned Frogs, and Texas.
But the two schools that were long considered to be in the top group in this recruitment are Clemson and Texas. Clemson was the hot school in the race to land a commitment from Gipson during the spring and early summer.
Texas football 4-Star DB target Corian Gipson sets July 22 commitment date
When Gipson made it out of his June 9 official visit to Clemson uncommitted, Texas looked to be in a great spot to swing the momentum in its favor with the blue-chip in-state defensive back priority.
Texas started trending for Gipson in the last few weeks. Especially in the couple of weeks leading up to Gipson’s official visit to Texas from June 23-25, the Longhorns generated the most buzz in this recruitment.
Safeties coach Blake Gideon and co-DC Pete Kwiatkowski made a big impression on Gipson during his Texas official visit a couple of weekends ago. Texas was also helped by adding Gipson’s childhood friend and four-star IMG Academy safety, Jordon Johnson-Rubell, to the 2024 recruiting class when he announced on July 1.
Every forecast from the major recruiting services in the last month favor Texas
All five expert forecasts from the major recruiting services in the last 30 days project Gipson’s commitment to Texas. That includes two On3 RPM picks from Inside Texas’ Eric Nahlin and national writer Jeremy Johnson with moderate to high confidence projecting Gipson’s pledge to the Longhorns.
It’s hard not to like Texas’ position among the top schools in the race to land a commitment from Gipson heading into decision day in a few weeks. Gipson clearly has a spot in this class and it looks like he could be the third blue-chip DB to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class this summer, along with Johnson-Rubell and Wilson.
Texas currently holds commitments from a dozen recruits in the 2024 class. July will continue to be a big month on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2024 class, as we expect many more to commit to Texas in the coming weeks.
