Texas football landed its 13th commitment in the 2024 recruiting class on July 7 with a pledge from the gifted four-star Daingerfield (TX) athlete Aeryn Hampton. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have now landed a whopping 11 commitments in the last three weeks, nine of which are blue-chips.

Hampton is the Longhorns’ first re-commitment in the 2024 class. He chose Texas during a live stream for his public commitment on the night of July 7, picking the Longhorns over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

However, Hampton was initially one of the first to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class more than one year ago (February 2022). He then de-committed from Texas after picking up a bevy of Power Five offers last fall.

Texas remained involved in Hampton’s recruitment, despite his de-commitment last fall, including three visits he’s taken to Austin since the spring.

Who’s next for Texas football in the 2024 class after a re-commitment from 4-Star ATH Aeryn Hampton?

Landing a re-commitment from Hampton is another domino to fall during a hot summer on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2024 class. Here’s a prediction of the next to commit to the Longhorns in the 2024 class after Hampton on July 7.

Malik Blocton, DL

Decision date: July 8

The next scheduled commitment on the docket for a target of the Longhorns 2024 class this week is three-star Pike Road (AL) defensive lineman Malik Blocton. The 6-foot-3 and 255-pound Alabama defensive line target announces his commitment on July 8 at 3 p.m. CT.

Blocton is deciding between Texas and the Auburn Tigers, two schools he visited last month. Auburn is the favorite heading into decision day for Blocton, but Texas has remained firmly involved in this recruitment in the last couple of weeks.

The only official visit Blocton took this summer was to Texas from June 16-18. Blocton and his family had a good trip to Austin last month for his official. He is also scheduled to officially visit Auburn in late November.

I don’t think the numbers will ultimately work out here, as Texas has more significant priorities along the defensive line in the 2024 class. But it wouldn’t be a complete upset if Texas landed Blocton’s commitment on July 8.
