Melvin Hills, DL

Decision date: July 12

The most likely next candidate up to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class is the underrated three-star Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) defensive lineman Melvin Hills. The 6-foot-4 and 270-pound Louisiana defensive lineman is deciding between Texas and the Ole Miss Rebels on July 12.

Texas and Ole Miss were the only two schools Hills officially visited last month. But the former of those two schools look like the favorite heading into decision day for the athletic and lengthy defensive lineman.

Defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns have maintained strong communication with Hills since his official visit to Austin concluded on June 18. Inside Texas even reported this week (paid content) that Hills had recent contact with Sark.

That’s usually a good sign of how much Texas prioritizes a defensive recruit when Sark is in contact with him.

Playing all four years in the SEC is also a big deal to Hills. He is a kid from the southeastern United States that is mostly being recruited by SEC programs. Texas’ move to the SEC in 2024, along with the vibe in Austin and the strong academics at UT, played big roles for the Longhorns in this recruitment.

I would be pretty surprised if Texas weren’t the pick for Hills when the day of his commitment arrives on July 12.
