Texas football trending for 4-Star ATH Aeryn Hampton on decision day
The next key target of the 2024 Texas football recruiting class that has an important decision date to watch this month is the highly touted four-star Daingerfield (TX) athlete Aeryn Hampton. The former Texas commit and uber-talented blue-chip in-state athlete will announce on the night of July 7 between UT and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Hampton will announce his commitment at 7:45 p.m. CT on July 7. He was originally scheduled to announce his decision at 5 p.m. CT on July 7, but he announced on Twitter that the live stream will occur a few hours later.
Texas has remained in the mix for Hampton since he de-committed from the Longhorns last fall. Hampton was among the first to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class early last offseason. But he backed off that commitment upon a bevy of other schools offering and picking up communication with him last summer and fall.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are looking at Hampton as a true athlete in the 2024 class. Hampton plays wide receiver at defensive back at Daingerfield High School. And he could play either side of the ball at Texas, assuming he commits to the Longhorns on July 7, depending on the positional need and best fit at the time.
Moreover, Texas is in a great spot to get a pledge from Hampton on decision day. Texas has started trending to land Hampton’s commitment since he had a successful official visit to Austin from June 16-18.
Texas the heavy favorite to land Hampton
Between the three major recruiting services (On3, Rivals, and 247Sports), all forecasts in the last month project Hampton’s commitment to Texas over Alabama. That includes more than a half-dozen forecasts entered this week that project Hampton to land with the Longhorns in the 2024 class.

Horns247 reported on July 6 (paid content) that momentum has shifted in the Longhorns’ direction in this recruitment since Hampton’s official visit to Texas a few weeks ago. Nothing we’ve heard in the last 24 hours contradicts the information from that Horns247 report, especially given the insane amount of recent forecasts projecting Hampton’s commitment to Texas.

Texas is considered the favorite to get Hampton in the class over the Crimson Tide on July 7. Assuming that comes to fruition tonight, Hampton would be the 13th to commit to the Longhorns 2024 class and the 11th since June 16.
