Believe it or not, Texas football has never played these FBS teams
Texas football sparked one of the biggest dominos to fall in conference realignment in college sports this decade. When Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners announced the move to leave the Big 12 for the SEC in 2024, it shook the entire college sports landscape.
The Longhorns and Sooners leaving the Big 12 for the SEC was the first domino to fall in a significant round of realignment moves in the last couple of years. The other big-time move in this round of conference realignment saw the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins announce they will leave the PAC-12 for the Big Ten in 2024.
We should expect more moves in this round of conference realignment to be on the horizon shortly. The Big 12 is still looking to expand after adding the Houston Cougars, BYU Cougars, Cincinnati Bearcats, and UCF Knights to the conference in 2023.
Conference realignment impacts the future of college sports and how TV deals and scheduling will be done in the coming years in college football. There are plenty of opponents out there the Longhorns have never faced.
All the significant moves in this round of conference realignment and the expansion of the College Football Playoff in 2026 could change the nature of how Texas schedules for the future. That leads us to consider which FBS teams the Longhorns have yet to face in football.
Texas football vs. AAC
After the latest round of conference realignment moves, there are now five schools in the American Athletic Conference the Longhorns have yet to face in football.
Charlotte 49ers
The Charlotte 49ers have only played in the FBS since 2015. This fall will be the 49ers first year playing in the AAC after spending eight seasons in the Conference-USA.
East Carolina Pirates
One of the original members of the ACC that Texas has yet to face on the gridiron is the East Carolina Pirates. Another former member of the C-USA, ECU-Texas would make for an interesting non-conference matchup if it ever gets scheduled in the future.
Memphis Tigers
The most prominent football brand in the AAC that the Longhorns have yet to face are the Memphis Tigers. Memphis makes for a tough non-conference foe for most Power Five programs in football and basketball.
South Florida Bulls
The South Florida Bulls are one of the three original AAC members on this list that Texas has yet to face in football.
UAB Blazers
After getting the football program reinstated a few years ago, the UAB Blazers have emerged as one of the most consistent and successful Group of Five programs.
