Believe it or not, Texas football has never played these FBS teams
Texas football vs. FBS Independents
Currently, there are four schools that are considered independents for scheduling purposes in the FBS. The two that Texas has faced at least once are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Army Black Knights.
That leaves the two FBS independents in the northeastern United States, the UConn Huskies, and the UMass Minutemen, as the two the Longhorns haven’t faced on the gridiron.
If either UConn or UMass would be willing to make the trip to DKR to face the Longhorns in the coming decades, it’s certainly possible that Texas could face at least one of these schools soon.
UConn Huskies
The recent interest between UConn and the Big 12 could shake up the future scheduling for the Huskies. Getting into the Big 12 could also be a make-or-break move for head coach Jim Mora Jr. and the Huskies, given that the program just made its first bowl appearance in more than a half-decade last season.
UMass Minutemen
UMass has struggled mightily as a football program since it became an independent school in the FBS again in 2016. UMass made the jump to the FBS in 2012, initially joining the MAC. It has remained an FBS independent school since the 2016 season.
