Texas football vs. MAC

Texas has yet to face a single school from the MAC. None of the 12 member schools from the MAC are on a future schedule for the Longhorns either.

Given the proximity of so many closer Group of Five schools, it doesn’t make much sense for the Longhorns to schedule any of the MAC schools. There are nearly a dozen Group of Five and high-level FCS programs in Texas. That’s not to mention neighboring states such as Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico, which also have viable non-conference opponents with shorter travel distances than any of the midwest schools in the MAC.

It’s also worth noting that the MAC doesn’t have many of the schools that are commonly considered the class of the Group of Five. That’s not to say that all schools in the MAC are bad, but there isn’t a consistent contender to make a New Year’s Six Bowl game that emerged from this conference in the last decade.
