Believe it or not, Texas football has never played these FBS teams
Texas football vs. Mountain West
The Mountain West was one of the stronger Group of Five football programs in the last decade. Some of the Mountain West’s member schools have even drawn interest from the Power Five in the last couple of rounds of conference realignment moves, such as the San Diego State Aztecs, Colorado State Rams, and Boise State Broncos.
It is interesting that there are some intriguing opponents in the Mountain West that would make for fun non-conference matchups that Texas has never faced.
Texas facing Boise State on the blue turf would be a difficult matchup for the Longhorns, but it would certainly be a good draw for the television audience. The same could likely be said for a non-conference showdown between Texas and San Diego State.
Boise State Broncos
As long as Boise State remains one of the strongest Group of Five football programs in the country, there will usually be the possibility of a school like Texas facing them in the postseason.
Fresno State Bulldogs
The Fresno State Bulldogs have emerged as one of the better west coast Group of Five football programs in the last decade. But it’s hard to see Texas wanting to schedule Fresno State if it would involve making the trip to northern California one year.
Nevada Wolf Pack
Nevada seems like a school that would be an interesting Group of Five non-conference foe for the Longhorns to court for the future to come to DKR early in the regular season.
San Diego State Aztecs
Scheduling San Diego State would be a lot like scheduling Boise State. Both would be difficult non-conference matchups for the Longhorns, given the strength of both programs in recent years.
UNLV Rebels
Unless the UNLV Rebels start to ascend in the Mountain West in the near future, it will continue to have trouble against any Power Five foe it schedules.
