Texas Football: 5 biggest flips in Longhorns recruiting history
Kelvin Banks Jr., OT*
Flipped from Oregon in the 2022 class
The highest-rated recent flip for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail came when offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and this staff got the former elite five-star Humble (TX) Summer Creek offensive tackle recruit Kelvin Banks Jr. Texas flipped Banks from the Oregon Ducks late in the 2022 cycle in early December.
I will say that there is an asterisk next to Banks’ name on this list because he is the only recruit that wasn’t a same-day flip for Texas. He makes this list because he was firmly trending to Texas literally the minute after he de-committed from Oregon on Dec. 6, 2021.
Banks committed to Texas on Dec. 11, 2021, and then signed to the 2022 class during the Early Signing Period on Dec. 15.
Flood and the Longhorns landed Banks as one of the highest-rated commits in the highest-rated offensive line class in program history. He and five-star Bowie interior offensive line recruit DJ Campbell were both two of the top 35 high school prospects in the nation in the 2022 class in the 247Sports Composite.
Banks was an immediate impact player for the Longhorns. He immediately became Texas’ best offensive lineman, boasting Freshman All-American honors last season.
Heading into the 2023 season, Banks will be looking to ascend to the heights of one of the best offensive tackles in the entire country. He’s already solidified as a top-10 caliber pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Thus, getting Consensus All-American honors would be the next step for the insanely-talented Banks at Texas.
