Texas Football: 5 biggest flips in Longhorns recruiting history
Samuel Cosmi, OT
Flipped from Houston in the 2017 class
One of the best offensive tackles in the last decade on the Forty Acres is the former underrated three-star recruit out of Humble (TX) Atascocita High School, Samuel Cosmi. It’s crazy that Cosmi ranked as the No. 1,109 recruit nationally in the 2017 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite.
Texas flipped Cosmi from the Houston Cougars late in 2017, just before National Signing Day. Cosmi flipped from Houston to Texas on Jan. 30, 2017.
Cosmi is certainly one of the most decorated offensive linemen for the Longhorns in the last couple of decades. He was a USA Today Freshman All-American as a redshirt freshman during the 2018 campaign.
And he only got better in the next two seasons. Cosmi graded out as one of the two best offensive tackles in the Big 12 in his last two seasons at Texas, earning two All-Big 12 selections in the process and honorable mention All-American honors in 2020.
It’s also worth noting that Cosmi was the second-highest-graded pass blocker among offensive tackles in the Power Five during the 2020 season.
Cosmi was a staple along the offensive line for three years at Texas, holding that side down in front of four-year starting quarterback Sam Ehlinger. He made life a lot easier for Ehlinger, who could always trust Cosmi holding it down at left tackle (right tackle in 2018).
