Texas Football: 3 takeaways from Sarkisian’s PC at Big 12 Media Days
Quinn Ewers is keeping a level head through the high expectations
This takeaway is more of a two-parter.
First, we have to talk about the faith and confidence that Sark and the Longhorns have in Ewers. This should go without saying, but Sark definitely emphasized at Big 12 Media Days how important it is for Ewers to take a more significant leadership role and make some of the necessary strides this fall.
It is also worth noting that Sark mentioned multiple times that Ewers is a first-round NFL Draft pick at quarterback. That is a big change in tone from where Sark talked about Ewers last offseason, specifically at Big 12 Media Days.
That reflects well on Ewers’ growth this offseason and his ability to become a leader in the locker room and on the practice field in the last six or eight months.
Sark raised the bar for Ewers at Big 12 Media Days this year and dialed back the expectations for true freshman quarterback Arch Manning. When talking to ESPN before taking the main stage at media days, Sark mentioned that Arch has a bright future at Texas.
Secondly, the breakout interviews we saw from Ewers before Sark took the main stage at Big 12 Media Days saw him bring a calm presence when talking about expectations for the upcoming season. Quinn seemingly has confidence in his health and his teammates, especially in the wide receiver room, heading into the fall.
Ewers is well-known for having a level head, especially when he does interviews. That didn’t change at Big 12 Media Days.
What did change was how Quinn remained a calming presence in these interviews while the media and his head coach were raising the bar for his expectations in Year 2 as the starting quarterback.
