Texas Football: Predicting Longhorns’ next commit after Melvin Hills
Texas football landed its 14th commitment in the 2024 recruiting class amid a big run on the trail this summer for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas got a pledge from the lengthy and versatile three-star Lafayette Christian Academy (LA) defensive lineman Melvin Hills to bring the 2024 class up to 14 commits and two along the defensive line.
Defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns now have two of the four spots filled out in the trenches on this side of the ball in the 2024 class. The two existing defensive line commits in the 2024 class are Hills and the powerful four-star Duncanville product Alex January.
Defensive line recruiting should stay hot for the rest of the month. There are a couple of upcoming decisions to watch for defensive line targets for the Longhorns in the 2024 class as soon as July 13. High-three-star IMG Academy defensive lineman Jayden Jackson will commit on July 13, with Texas being one of the five schools in consideration.
Who’s next to commit to Texas football in the 2024 class after 3-Star DL Melvin Hills?
There are also many other upcoming decision dates to watch for key targets in the Longhorns 2024 class in the coming weeks. Here’s a prediction of the Longhorns’ next commit in the 2024 class after landing Hills on July 12.
TJ Lindsey, DL
Decision date: TBD
While he doesn’t have a set decision det yet, the underrated four-star IMG Academy defensive lineman TJ Lindsey is likely to announce before the end of the summer. Lindsey is firmly on the Longhorns’ radar in the 2024 class after a successful official visit to Austin in late June.
Texas made a big move in this recruitment during Lindsey’s official visit a few weeks ago. He made the trip from June 23-25 with three of his IMG Academy teammates, including high-four-star Texas running back commit Jerrick Gibson and four-star safety commit Jordon Johnson-Rubell.
Inside Texas reported on July 9 that Lindsey was down to Texas and the Auburn Tigers after his summer official visits. But it appears that Texas could be overtaking Auburn for the lead in this recruitment after Lindsey canceled an unofficial visit where he was supposed to see the Tigers on the last weekend of July.
There is a good chance that Texas will get Lindsey’s only visit before the month’s end.
And it appears likely that Texas could get three out of four IMG Academy official visitors from that late-June weekend between Lindsey, Gibson, and Johnson-Rubell if momentum keeps trending in their favor in this recruitment in the next couple of weeks.
