5 former Texas football transfers that the Longhorns will face in 2023

New school: Texas Tech
After a disappointing stint at Texas in the first few years of his collegiate career, the former high-four-star safety recruit Tyler Owens seems to be finding a home with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Owens transferred from Texas to Texas Tech last offseason as part of the last phases of the roster attrition Sark dealt with among the Herman-era recruits.
In his first year at Texas Tech, Owens was a quality contributor on the two-deep at the safety position. Owens received spot starts for Texas Tech last season, mostly due to injuries among the starters, against the Oklahoma State Cowboys and in the bowl game against the Ole Miss Rebels.
Owens also showed some playmaker instincts, forcing three turnovers last season. He forced two fumbles and picked off one ball. Owens also proved reliable in pass defense, grading out as one of the three best Texas Tech defensive backs in pass coverage.
And with Texas Tech losing senior boundary safety Reggie Pearson Jr. due to a lack of eligibility this offseason, Owens is primed to start for the first time in his collegiate career this fall.
Owens and the Red Raiders will face the Longhorns in the regular season finale at DKR in Austin on Black Friday (Nov. 24).
