One of the first elite recruits in the 2025 class to announce on social media that he will be making the trip to Texas in late July once the dead period lifts is the high-four-star Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei wide receiver Marcus Harris. The top-rated wide receiver recruit out of California in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite said on Twitter this week that he will be making the trip to Austin on July 25.

It looks like Harris will visit Texas a couple of days before Sanders arrives on campus, starting July 27 at the earliest, from what we’ve read from various reports.

The difference between Harris and Sanders is that the elite wideout recruit out of southern California won’t be making the trip to Austin for the first time in late July. Harris visited Texas twice unofficially last summer, including the big official visit weekend where the Longhorns had five-star quarterback Arch Manning on campus.

Harris is a top priority for the Longhorns among out-of-state wide receivers in the 2025 class early in the cycle. It’s likely no coincidence that Sark and the Longhorns staff had Harris on campus as a rising sophomore on the same weekend that Arch was officially visiting Texas last offseason.

Texas was also one of the early Power Five schools that offered Harris last offseason.

What makes this visit so important for the Longhorns in this recruitment, though, is that it will be the first time Harris meets new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson in person. Harris was initially recruited by former Texas wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, along with Sark and Jeff Banks.

Setting the right precedent by making a strong first impression is critical for Jackson and the Longhorns to remain one of the top schools early in this recruitment for Harris. Texas, along with the Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Ohio State Buckeyes, Tennessee Volunteers, and Georgia, have all been identified multiple times as the out-of-state schools standing out to Harris early in the recruiting process.
