This summer saw the 2024 Texas football recruiting class explode, adding a dozen commitments since the start of official visit season on June 16. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have had a successful run on the recruiting trail so far this summer, but their work is far from over.

Sark and the Longhorns staff still have a handful of elite priority recruits in the 2024 class who either have upcoming decisions in the next few weeks or are expected to make decisions before the start of their senior seasons. There are also some priority in-state prospects in the 2024 class that the Longhorns will recruit through the finish line on signing day.

One in-state recruit that the Longhorns will recruit through the finish line in the 2024 class is the elite five-star Temple (TX) Lake Belton wide receiver, Micah Hudson.

Texas football back in communication with 5-Star WR target Micah Hudson

Texas appears to still be recruiting Hudson, despite the Texas Tech Red Raiders holding the pole position in the race to land his commitment this summer. Texas Tech held all the momentum in this recruitment since Hudson officially visited Lubbock on June 16.

It’s a bit surprising that Hudson hasn’t committed to Texas Tech yet, after he was trending toward the Red Raiders coming out of his June 16 official visit. Hudson looked like he was headed down a path to committing to Texas Tech when he canceled his Texas official visit in the days following his trip to Lubbock in mid-June.

Yet, Hudson remaining uncommitted only helps the Longhorns as Sark and new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson look to make up ground on the Red Raiders heading into the fall. According to a Horns247 report on July 17 (paid content), Texas is “back in contact” with the elite wideout recruit out of Temple, TX.

Texas is now not only back in communication with Hudson but also pushing to get Hudson back to campus for a visit later this summer or during the fall. The Longhorns are trying to “chip away” at Texas Tech’s lead among the top schools in this recruitment.

If Hudson remains uncommitted heading into the fall, an official visit to Texas for a game at DKR is something to watch for. Texas’ best-case scenario in this recruitment is if it can win the Big 12 Championship and prove to Hudson that the offense is improving.

Texas making the necessary strides on the field this fall, along with Hudson keeping his recruitment open, would leave anything open for possibilities ahead of signing day in December.
