Alex January, DL

Recruiting ranking: No. 461, No. 46 DL

Another standout athlete among the 2024 Texas commits that is criminally underrated by most of the major recruiting services is the gigantic 6-foot-5 and 325-pound Duncanville (TX) defensive lineman Alex January. Texas’ first defensive line commit in the 2024 class has the physical tools to compete in the SEC early in his career on the Forty Acres.

January’s traits are off the charts as an interior defensive lineman that plays three tech and nose at Duncanville High School. He’s got tremendous power in the trenches thanks to a sturdy frame and strong lower base. January has a good pad-level approach and utilizes his length and strength well to create leverage at the point of attack.

Reactions, foot speed, and change of direction are also above average for the underrated South Dallas defensive lineman. January creates the necessary power and leverage while boasting the read-and-react instincts to cover his gaps effectively and occasionally garner double teams.

If January had more violent hands, he might be more highly rated among the defensive linemen in the 2024 class. But the fact that all he needs to improve is his hand usage while working out of the three-tech or nose tackle is manageable.

All other parts of January’s game are extremely impressive and would otherwise indicate a top 200 recruit in the nation in the 2024 class.
