UGA TE says AD Mitchell is ‘one of twitchiest dudes I’ve ever seen’
During SEC Media Days, multiple Georgia Bulldogs players spoke about new Texas football transfer and junior wide receiver AD Mitchell. The reigning John Mackey Award winner, junior tight end Brock Bowers, and junior cornerback Kamari Lassiter praised their former teammate and starting Texas boundary receiver Mitchell at SEC Media Days this week.
Bowers mentioned during SEC Media Days that Mitchell “was one of the twitchiest dudes I’ve ever seen”.
"“He could take one step then be heading the opposite direction at full speed. He’s just an impressive player. I’m just hoping for the best for him at Texas.”"
For Mitchell to impress one of the best tight ends in college football in the last decade to this extent says a lot about his talent and skill set.
Mitchell and Bowers were teammates in the same offense for the reigning back-to-back National Champion Georgia.
Moreover, Lassiter also had some kind words for Mitchell at SEC Media Days this week. Lassiter mentioned that Mitchell is a “great player” and that he had a tough time guarding the new Texas boundary receiver when they were one-on-one in practice at Georgia.
"“I had the luxury of guarding him day in and day out. We went to battle. We battled for two years. He’s a really good player. Really shifty. Really dynamic. Really good catch radius. Overall, just a really good player.”"
Mitchell and Lassiter were also teammates at Georgia for two seasons during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. Both were significant contributors during Georgia’s National Championship run last season. Mitchell, in particular, was a stud in all four Playoff wins for Georgia the prior two seasons.
Mitchell was a potent boundary receiver threat when healthy at Georgia
In his two seasons at Georgia, Mitchell caught 38 passes for 560 yards (14.7 yards per catch) and seven touchdowns. Lingering injury issues last fall limited Mitchell’s on-field production for Georgia. He only played six games for the Bulldogs last season due to a recurring ankle issue.
Mitchell was healthy for each of Georgia’s last two CFP runs. He was a big-time performer in the College Football Playoff over the last two seasons for the Bulldogs, catching eight passes for 149 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Starting at boundary receiver, Mitchell will be part of a loaded top group of three or five wideouts for the Longhorns this fall that also includes junior Xavier Worthy, redshirt senior Jordan Whittington, redshirt junior Isaiah Neyor, and true freshman Johntay Cook II. Texas also has a potent threat in the passing game this season in junior All-Big 12 tight end JT Sanders.
