The next big decision date to watch among key targets for the Longhorns in the 2024 class this summer is July 22. The highly touted four-star Lancaster (TX) defensive back Corian Gipson will announce his decision this weekend (specifically on July 22 at 4 p.m. CT).

Gipson’s decision will come down to the Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas. And it sounds like Texas at least holds a slight lead over Clemson, with Ohio State in third place, a couple of days before Gipson’s commitment.

It is difficult to get a clear read on this recruitment as the momentum swings for Gipson were abundant since the spring. Clemson looked like the favorite to land Gipson before his early-June official visit to see the Tigers.

But Texas took the momentum back in this recruitment when Gipson had a successful official visit to Austin on the weekend of June 23.

Bringing it all back to center in the last couple of weeks, it looks like distance from home and connections to some of the Longhorns’ players and commitments in Texas’ 2024 class could work in UT’s favor.

Gipson is one of the top-priority in-state defensive backs in the 2024 class for the Longhorns this summer. He is one of the must-get in-state defensive recruits in this class. He, four-star Marrero (LA) John Ehret cornerback Wardell Mack and five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black are the top outstanding priorities at defensive back for the Longhorns in the 2024 class.
