Thinking of how much depth and talent Texas has in the wide receiver room this year is mind-boggling. Texas has five or six NFL-caliber wide receivers this year, highlighted by junior Xavier Worthy, true freshman Johntay Cook II, junior AD Mitchell, and redshirt junior Isaiah Neyor.

The latter of those four talented Texas wideouts has the most to prove heading into fall camp to show he’s ready to make an impact on the field after a season-ending knee injury. Neyor suffered an unfortunate ACL tear in a fall scrimmage last year that ended his season before it started.

But we’ve continued to hear good news about the status of Neyor’s rehab throughout the offseason. The initial hope early this offseason was that Neyor would make a full return by fall camp. And it looks like he’s on track to participate fully in fall practice from what’s been reported in the last few months.

Early in summer workouts, we mentioned a report that said Neyor looked “really good” and “really fast”. He was “drawing praise” from the confidence and speed he showed in summer workouts.

I don’t mean to get too excited about one picture posted on the Texas Football Twitter page this week, but it’s great to see Neyor participating in workouts and conditioning without the brace on. That is the first time we’ve seen Neyor in a team post on social media this offseason participating fully in workouts without the brace on his knee.

If Neyor is ready to go in fall camp, he’ll still have to show he’s ready to compete among the top wide receivers for the Longhorns heading into the season. He’ll also need to show some versatility since Sark could use him in different pre-snap looks to add even more layers to the passing game.

Consider what Texas could do with a four-receiver and one-tight end set involving Worthy, Mitchell, redshirt senior Jordan Whittington, Neyor, and junior tight end JT Sanders. That’s a five-man receiver combination that no one in the Big 12 has the personnel to defend.
