Fall camp is one week away for Texas football. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian report for spring ball early next month, specifically starting practice on Aug. 2.

There are some overarching storylines worth following heading into fall camp, including the newcomers to watch for the Longhorns. Texas brought in 30 newcomers via the NCAA Transfer Portal, and the high school commits in the 2023 class this offseason.

Sark and the Longhorns will be looking to ingratiate the newcomers during fall practice, given the quantity of them that could contribute immediately during the 2023 season. What made this class of newcomers so impressive for the Longhorns is the fact that there is so much depth and talent to speak of on both sides of the ball.

Texas even addressed some needs on the special teams unit via high school recruiting and the transfer portal this offseason.

Here’s a look at four newcomers for the Longhorns that are breakout candidates to watch in fall camp.

Ryan Niblett, WR

Texas has a plethora of newcomers in the wide receiver room this offseason. Sark, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns brought in four new additions to the wide receiver room between high school recruiting and the transfer portal.

The only one of the four new additions to the wide receiver room that didn’t enroll during the spring was the former high-four-star recruit out of Houston (TX) Aldine Eisenhower High School, Ryan Niblett.

The 5-foot-10 and 165-pound freshman wideout Niblett was behind the eight ball in terms of his positioning on the wide receiver depth chart compared to the rest of the newcomers. But it sounds like Niblett made a real impression on the coaches during summer workouts thanks to his insane speed and more polished-than-expected skill set.

If Niblett continues to prove that he has a pretty polished wide receiver skill set, he could push for a spot on the two-deep at slot receiver this fall.
