The most immediate impact addition to the wide receiver room for the Longhorns this offseason is the former Georgia Bulldogs junior wideout AD Mitchell. The 6-foot-4 and 196-pound boundary receiver is primed to be an All-Big 12 caliber player for the Longhorns this fall.

Some might think that Mitchell is already entering fall camp with high expectations. To say that he will be a breakout player might be overlooking some of those expectations.

But Mitchell has yet to prove himself in live-game action for the Longhorns, and he dealt with injury issues at Georgia last season. A lingering ankle injury limited Mitchell to playing just a half-dozen games in Athens last season.

Mitchell has done it on the biggest of stages, catching a touchdown pass in all four College Football Playoff games he played in at Georgia in the last two seasons. He now needs to prove he can get it done week in and week out at Texas this coming season to become one of the best wideouts in college football truly.

There’s a chance that Mitchell could become Texas’ primary receiver in terms of targets and drawn-up plays this fall. He’s the big-bodied and athletic boundary receiver with an enormous catch radius that could benefit redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers.

If Mitchell stays healthy throughout the 2023 season, it’s not out of the question to say that he pushes fellow junior Texas wideout Xavier Worthy for the team lead in receptions.
