Texas football offers giant DeSoto 2025 OT Byron Washington
Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian sent a handful of new offers to rising targets of the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes during the late-July pool party/BBQ this week. Literally, the biggest human that Texas offered so far during the Texas Bash for the pool party/BBQ late this week is the rising 2025 DeSoto offensive tackle Byron Washington.
The gigantic 6-foot-8 and 350-pound DeSoto offensive tackle Washington announced on social media on July 27 that he received an offer from Texas amid his visit to the 40 this week.
Not only is Washington the biggest human that Texas offered during the bash this week, but he is also the biggest offensive tackle that the Longhorns have offered in the 2025 class (both in height and weight). He barely edges the 6-foot-7.5 and 345-pound four-star Cedar Rapids (IA) John F. Kennedy product Nicolai Brooks as the biggest offensive tackle offer for the Longhorns in the 2025 class.
Texas football offers enormous 2025 DeSoto OT Byron Washington
Washington clearly fits the “big human” mold that offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns want in the trenches upon the move to the SEC next year. In fact, Washington is bigger than nearly any of the other offensive tackle offers in the last few cycles for Flood and the Longhorns.
Washington checks in at 365 pounds in a post-visit report
Horns247 even reported that Washington checked in at 6-foot-7 and 365-pounds in a post-visit write-up on July 28.
After the first day of his visit to the 40 for the pool party/BBQ, Washington had some good things to say about Flood and the Longhorns. He reportedly stated that he “feels the closest” with Flood of any of the college coaches recruiting him this summer. ‘
"Washington says he feels closest with Kyle Flood out of every coach recruiting him at this point in time. Texas, Oregon, and TCU are the main contenders right now."
Washington also included Texas in a group with the TCU Horned Frogs and Oregon Ducks among the schools standout out early in the recruiting process.
While Washington is a huge offensive lineman still developing his game at DeSoto, he looks imposing on film, especially at his size. Thanks to his enormous frame and strong lower base, Washington easily moves bodies off the line of scrimmage in run blocking.
Washington also shows on film that he is pretty fleet-of-feet for his size, allowing him to emphatically finish blocks and keep up with some of the faster pass rushers in one-on-one matchups in pass pro.
He is the type of “big human” along the offensive line that could be pretty scheme versatile and help Flood and the Longhorns win battles in the trenches against the bigger interior defensive linemen in the SEC.
We’ll continue to monitor his recruitment for updates after Texas became the fourth Power Five school to offer him. The other Power Five schools that offered Washington thus far are the Arizona State Sun Devils, TCU, and Oregon.
