Texas football just concluded its last visit week of the summer before the start of the 2023 regular season. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted roughly a couple dozen visiting recruits from the 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 recruiting classes for the pool party/BBQ bash this week.

A handful of visiting recruits from Mater Dei High School were also on campus earlier this week, most notably high-four-star running back Jordon Davison and wide receiver Marcus Harris.

The No. 1 rated running back recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite, Davison, was on campus for the fifth time earlier this week. His teammate and the No. 1 ranked California wide receiver recruit in the 2025 class, Harris, has also visited Texas multiple times now.

Texas football makes another strong impression on the No. 1 2025 RB Jordon Davison

Texas appears to be heavily in the mix for both elite 2025 skill recruits from Mater Dei High School. Davison, in particular, has a great relationship with the Texas staff. Running backs coach Tashard Choice has consistent communication with Davison.

Choice and the Longhorns clearly identified Davison early in the cycle as one of their top priorities at the running back position in the 2025 class. Davison told Orangebloods after his Texas visit this week (subscriber content) that Choice is a big reason why the Longhorns are one of his top schools this summer.

"“We just continue to build a relationship. Every time I go there I get closer.”"

The piece from Orangebloods noted that Davison will have Texas among his top schools when he trims down his list to five or 10 programs later this summer or in the fall. He said that “Texas will be in it for the long run” in his recruitment.

It also sounds like the trajectory of the Texas program under Sark is a big reason why Davison has the Longhorns among his top contenders early in the recruiting process. He likes how the program is trending ahead of the move to leave the Big 12 for the SEC in 2025.

Texas is one of the top early contenders in the race to land a commitment from Davison. The USC Trojans, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Georgia Bulldogs are also making big pushes in this recruitment for the No. 1 running back in the 2025 class.
