The highest-rated visitor that Texas football hosted this week for the late-July pool party/BBQ Bash was the elite five-star 2025 Galveston (TX) Ball athlete/linebacker Jonah Williams. The priority in-state 2025 linebacker recruit Williams visited Texas this week for the first time since the second Junior Day of the offseason on March 25.

Williams is a frequent visitor on campus for the Longhorns since last offseason. But it is never bad for Texas to have a top-priority defensive recruit visiting campus as often as Williams has in the last 18 months.

It sounds like Williams had another good experience during his visit to Austin a few days ago for the Texas pool party/BBQ Bash. He told Horns247 after his visit for the bash this week (paid content) that “it’s always good being in my hometown, being at a school my brother thought about going to”.

Texas football emerges as a “top school” for 5-Star 2025 LB Jonah Williams after his visit this week

Williams continued to build relationships with the Texas coaches, namely head coach Steve Sarkisian and co-DC/LB coach Jeff Choate. He mentioned in this Horns247 post-visit report that he’s connected with Sark before, as Texas’ head coach was the one that officially extended him the scholarship offer in February 2023.

"“Coach Sark offered me a scholarship officially, so that was a blessing. I’m just grateful for it. He said he likes my game, how I play, how I fit right into the defense.”"

Whenever Sark is personally involved with a recruitment for a defensive prospect in a future cycle, you know that is a sign of how much this staff is prioritizing him. Sark, Choate, and the Longhorns are doing a nice job of letting Williams know how much of a priority he is for them in the 2025 class.

"“I really like the campus, players, everything. The coaches, they’re all great people. They always ask me how I’m doing, so that’s a great thing.”"

Coming out of the visit for the pool party/BBQ bash, Williams noted that Texas is a “top school” for him.

Texas needs to hit big with LB recruiting in the 2025 class

Pete Kwiatkowski, Choate, and the Longhorns must hit the recruiting trail hard at the linebacker position in the 2025 class, since it looks as if they might not take a single LB in the 2024 class. Texas’ top linebacker prioties in the 2024 class, four-star Tyanthony Smith and five-star Justin Williams, committed to other competing schools on the recruiting trail this summer.

Texas did take a strong group of linebackers in the 2023 class, highlighted by five-star Anthony Hill Jr. and four-star Liona Lefau. But PK and Choate will need to restock the depth at the position with a strong linebacker haul in the 2025 class.

Williams is emerging as a big potential piece to that puzzle for the Longhorns to have another strong linebacker class for the 2025 cycle. He is an elite athlete that mostly plays safety at Galveston Ball High School. But he has the tools to be a versatile and rangy will linebacker for the Longhorns along the defensive front.
