A top target at edge rusher early in the cycle for the 2025 Texas football recruiting class is the highly touted Humble (TX) Summer Creek four-star Chad Woodfork. Texas has prioritized Woodfork’s recruitment since he was offered during the spring.

Woodfork made it back to Austin for the Texas pool party/BBQ Bash this week. He was one of the highest-rated visiting recruits from the 2025 class on campus for the last big visit week before the start of the 2023 season.

Texas was able to keep building on a strong foundation with the high-priority blue-chip edge rusher during his late-July visit to the 40 earlier this week. Woodfork spent time with his former teammate at Summer Creek High School, and Freshman All-American Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr.

Woodfork also connected more with the defensive coaches, namely defensive line coach Bo Davis, during the visit for the Texas Bash.

Inside Texas also reported (paid content) that the “highlight” of the unofficial visit to Texas this week for Woodfork was getting to see the team practice.

"“You know, the players were getting after it. Players were ready to practice and they didn’t miss a beat. I mean, the coaches, they were coaching great. It was an intense practice. I love that.”"

Texas’ coaches and players reportedly pitched Woodfork on his ability to make an impact on the front seven during his visit.

Texas has great relationships in this recruitment

Davis and the Longhorns have done a nice job building relationships early in the recruitment for Woodfork. Texas’ DL coach has visited Summer Creek High School multiple times this offseason, getting to connect with Woodfork in-person to build that relationship.

It helps that Texas has the connection between the former Summer Creek teammates Banks and Woodfork. Banks’ success early in his career at Texas is also something the staff can pitch to Woodfork in this recruitment.

Woodfork has also visited Texas as many or more times than any other school this offseason.

Texas will work to get Woodfork back to campus as much as possible during the fall while keeping consistent communication with the high-four-star EDGE standout. Meanwhile, other schools that have their foot in the door early in the recruiting process, such as the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Houston Cougars, have also hosted Woodfork at least one time each this offseason.
