Texas football is wrapping up its last major visit week of the year before the start of the 2023 season this weekend. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted roughly a couple dozen visiting recruits on campus from the 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 recruiting classes this weekend for the pool party/BBQ Bash.

One of the visitors that was expected to make it to Texas this week for the Bash was the elite five-star New Iberia (LA) Westgate cornerback Jaboree Antoine. The elite 2025 cornerback recruit out of The Boot was supposed to be one of the highest-rated visitors on campus this week.

But Antoine wasn’t able to visit Texas this week, instead visiting College Station, TX, and Baton Rouge, LA, to see the Texas A&M Aggies and LSU Tigers on July 28 and 29.

Despite missing the visit, it still sounds like Texas is high on Antoine’s list among his top group early in the 2025 cycle. On3’s Sam Spiegelman reported on July 30 that Texas and LSU are the two SEC schools “setting the pace” early in Antoine’s recruitment.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph has a good relationship with Antoine. Joseph and the Longhorns are ensuring Antoine knows he is one of the top out-of-state defensive back priorities in the 2025 class.

Texas has multiple connections with Antoine

Texas is also one of the first schools that Antoine is prioritizing for his next round of visits heading into his junior season at Westgate High School.

"“I’m trying to get there as soon as possible. Coach Terry has been trying to get me down there for a while. Seeing Derek thrive down there in Texas has got me excited.”"

Joseph has a strong track record recruiting top talent out of Louisiana.

Antoine also has a relationship with freshman Texas safety and his former teammate at Westgate, Derek Williams. If Williams can make an early impact on Texas’ secondary this fall, that will be an attractive selling point for the Longhorns in the race to land a commitment from Antoine.

LSU also has established good relationships early in the recruiting process for Antoine. The elite Westgate cornerback recruit has a good connection with LSU safeties coach Kerry Cooks, who made a big impression during Antoine’s most recent visit to Baton Rouge earlier this month.
