The final week of visits before the start of the 2023 season took place for Texas football recruiting from July 25-29, with a few remaining visitors staying until the end of last weekend. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian hosted more than two dozen visiting recruits from the 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 classes for last week’s pool party/BBQ bash.

Most visitors who made it to campus for the Texas Bash last week were widely reported and known upon the dead period for in-person visits lifting on July 25. But one was able to make it to campus in a surprise fashion late last week.

Multiple reports on July 31 indicate that the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black made it to Texas for an unofficial visit last week (including Horns247 and Inside Texas). He specifically made the unofficial trip to Texas on July 28.

Black made it to Austin 24 hours before his unofficial visit to College Station to see the Texas A&M Aggies for their pool party.

Black has frequently visited Texas this offseason

This was the first time Black made it back to Austin since his late-June official visit. It was also the third visit to Texas since the first Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 21.

Black reportedly spent time with cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph, Sark, and former Connally High School teammate/UT freshman Jelani McDonald.

After making the surprise trip to Austin on July 29, Black has visited Texas more often than any other school this offseason. That should give Texas fans confidence regarding where the Longhorns stand among the top schools for Black heading into the fall.

Texas is commonly considered the favorite among the top schools for Black late this summer. Texas A&M did make a big push with Black during his unofficial visit for their pool party last weekend. The Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, and LSU Tigers are also still pushing to close the gap on Texas’ lead in the race to land a commitment from Black.

Black doesn’t have a scheduled commitment date as of the writing of this article on the afternoon of July 31. He reportedly is scheduled to be at Connally High School for the start of training camp on Aug. 1, so his recruitment will likely spill into his senior season.
