Interior offensive line

Positions: Center, right guard

There are a couple of notable position battles to dissect on this part of the list. Interior offensive line will have a couple of spots that will have some movement during fall camp.

However, the domino that has to fall for the other spots along the interior offensive line to be settled this fall is at center. Flood and the Longhorns will cycle reps between senior Jake Majors, sophomore Connor Robertson, and sophomore Cole Hutson.

Flood also mentioned during his part of the press conference on Aug. 1 that true freshman Jaydon Chatman and junior Hayden Conner also took reps at center during spring camp and summer workouts. But he didn’t mention those two among the candidates to compete for the starting center job in fall camp.

It sounds like Flood and the Longhorns are still searching for other options at center to put the best five-man combination on the field along the offensive line. Flood has experimented with other center options outside of Majors for over 18 months.

Once the center is settled, that will clarify who the starting right guard will be opposite Conner. If Hutson wins the starting job at center, that opens the door for sophomore interior offensive lineman DJ Campbell to win the starting right guard job.

It will get interesting if Hutson doesn’t win the starting center job, as he and Campbell will then duke it out for the first-team right guard reps.
