Texas Football: Isaiah Neyor is ‘fully cleared’ for fall camp
Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian took to the podium to talk to the media on Aug. 1 before the start of fall camp on Aug. 2. Sark updated the media and Texas fans on a range of topics, including the status of the players on the roster heading into fall camp this week.
He stated that “every guy on the roster will be available to practice on that first day”. It sounds like there weren’t any severe injuries during summer workouts or major lagging bumps and bruises from spring ball.
One Longhorns player who sounds ready for fall camp is redshirt junior wide receiver Isaiah Neyor. The former Wyoming Cowboys transfer receiver is rehabbing from an ACL tear he, unfortunately, suffered in a scrimmage in fall camp last year.
That knee injury ended Neyor’s season before he could make his Texas debut.
Texas football WR Isaiah Neyor “fully cleared” for fall camp, says Steve Sarkisian
On Neyor’s status, Sark specifically mentioned that “he looks great” heading into fall camp and that “he’s fully cleared, ready to go”.
It also sounds like Neyor looked good physically during summer workouts, which aligns with the reporting we saw during his rehab process in the last few months. Sark said that Neyor has been”running well this summer” and that “he’s in a really good frame of mind” heading into fall camp.
Neyor likely part of the top group of receivers this fall for Texas
During his time on the podium on Aug. 1, Sark also mentioned that Texas is planning on having a “4-5 man rotation” at wideout this fall. It’s fair to say that Neyor will be one of those top four or five wideouts in the rotation this season.
Neyor was projected to be the starting boundary receiver last year before he suffered the unfortunate season-ending knee injury.
He heads into fall camp this year as the projected backup at boundary receiver behind the former Georgia Bulldogs junior wideout transfer AD Mitchell.
A healthy Neyor drastically upgrades an already strong WR room
Neyor returning to the wide receiver room this fall means that Texas has one of the deepest and most talented receiving corps in the Power Five. Sark, new wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns have five or six NFL-caliber wideouts in the mix this year.
Some of the top wideouts for the Longhorns heading into fall camp are junior starting field receiver Xavier Worthy, redshirt senior starting slot receiver Jordan Whittington, Mitchell, Neyor, and true freshman Johntay Cook II. Texas also has a really potent weapon in the passing game in junior All-Big 12 tight end JT Sanders.
