In less than 24 hours, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian will kick off the first fall practice. Texas players reported for fall camp on Aug. 1, which means football is right around the corner on the Forty Acres.

There is no more important player for the Longhorns to find success on the field as fall camp approaches than redshirt sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers. The second-year starting quarterback will be the x-factor on offense for the Longhorns this season.

Ewers has plenty of buzz surrounding his growth this offseason. He took a more evident leadership role within the program going all the way back to winter workouts.

And it sounds like Ewers has continued to become a more vocal leader for this team heading into fall camp. Horns247 reported (paid content) that Ewers had a few instances of leadership moments during summer workouts.

One specific nugget mentioned in this Horns247 report came when the team ran 10 Longhorn shuttles to finish a day of summer conditioning. Ewers reportedly told strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton “coach, we’ve got 12 games; how about two more?”

The team apparently followed through with the additional Longhorn shuttles without any complaints.

"Ewers has bought into the diet, the workouts. That takes discipline and focus. He’s in a great frame of mind. Feels like his team. He leads that way. The overall understanding of the scheme and system, going into year two, the nuances of what they’re doing make more sense to him."

Ewers also reportedly (per Orangebloods) is bought in at a higher level this year than last.

Sarkisian speaking highly of Ewers heading into fall camp

In the pre-training camp press conference on Aug. 1, Sark had a lot of good things to say about the direction of Ewers’ game. Sark mentioned that Ewers is “very confident in the space he’s gotten himself into heading into training camp”.

This matches Sark’s tone about Ewers throughout the offseason, especially as he did at Big 12 Media Days last month.
