The top priority recruit for Texas football in the 2024 class, the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons, announced his commitment date on social media on the afternoon of Aug. 2. Simmons dropped his top three finalist schools, which he’ll decide between on his commitment date on Aug. 10.

Texas made the top group of schools for Simmons, along with the LSU Tigers and Miami Hurricanes.

But this sounds like it will be a battle between Texas and LSU to land Simmons’ commitment. Texas and LSU held the momentum in this recruitment in the last few months.

Texas initially grabbed momentum in this recruitment during Simmons’ late-June official visit to Austin. There was a ton of buzz surrounding the Longhorns coming out of Simmons’ June 23-25 official visit.

But LSU took back some of that momentum in this recruitment when Simmons made an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge, LA, last week for the Bayou Splash. Simmons and his family had a good experience during their multi-day unofficial trip to LSU, which wrapped up last weekend.

Industry forecasts are split between Texas and LSU for Simmons

Since Simmons announced his commitment date on social media on Aug. 2, multiple forecasts were placed favoring, some favoring LSU and some favoring Texas.
