Texas Football: 3 biggest takeaways from Day 2 of fall practice
Quinn Ewers leads an incredibly deep and “buttoned-up” group at QB
Some of the best news we could hear from the first two days of fall practice is that the quarterbacks are looking good, specifically redshirt sophomore starter Quinn Ewers. It sounds like Ewers, along with redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy and true freshman Arch Manning are all looking crisp in throwing drills this week.
Ewers reportedly had “another clean day of throwing” and looked “sharp and precise”, despite the wind being more of a factor than on the first day of fall practice on Aug. 2.
From what we saw of Murphy and Arch, they also looked good throwing the ball on the second day of fall practice. Murphy especially has started to find his rhythm during his first fall camp as a full participant in drills. During the YouTube show for On Texas Football post-Day 2 of fall practice, Bobby Burton reported that Murphy had the best-looking deep ball of the top three quarterbacks for the Longhorns.
Regarding Ewers, another encouraging sign from him in the early stages of fall practice is the leadership qualities he’s started to exude. Ewers led the team breakdown on the first day of practice on Aug. 2. Senior linebacker Jaylan Ford led the breakdown on the second day.
All told, Ewers looks much more confident and composed in the first two days of fall practice this year than he did at the same time last offseason. Ewers is looking the part of the leader of this offense thus far in fall practice.
