Dominick McKinley, DL*

Decision date: Sep. 1

Potentially the second most important five-star priority target for the Longhorns in the 2024 class late this summer is the elite Lafayette (LA) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. The top-ranked Louisiana defensive lineman in the 2024 class is the top priority at the position for defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns late this summer.

McKinley will announce his decision on Sep. 1. He will decide between the Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU, and Texas. But most of the intel in this recruitment suggests that Texas and Oklahoma are in the pole position, with LSU in third place. Texas A&M and Ohio State are also trying to make late pushes with McKinley a few weeks before his commitment date.

McKinley and his family like what Texas offers from the perspective of football, city life, and academics. But it also sounds like he likes what Oklahoma is selling him.

A combination of relationships with OU defensive line coach Todd Bates and Texas’ Davis, along with the opportunity to get immediate playing time at both schools, leads me to believe that Texas and Oklahoma are the top schools in this recruitment a few weeks before McKinley’s commitment.

Inside Texas reports (paid content) McKinley spoke with Davis last week and has another call with the Texas DL coach this week. Oklahoma is also staying in consistent communication with McKinley late this summer.

This is another recruitment that will be a fight through the finish line on signing day. But there is plenty of confidence on the Texas side ahead of McKinley’s decision, and rightly so. Texas has about as good of a chance as anyone to land McKinley’s commitment on Sep. 1.
