Kobe Black, CB

The top in-state defensive back priority for the Longhorns in the 2024 class is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. The No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class has great relationships with Texas’ staff. This was another top-priority recruit that Texas knocked it out of the park with during June official visits.

Black also made it to Austin for an unofficial visit before visiting College Station, TX, to see Texas A&M in late July. That was his third visit to Austin during the offseason, more times than he’s visited any other school in 2023.

Moreover, Texas cracked the top five for Black, which he announced on social media on Aug. 9. The Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M, and LSU also made his top five. I also wouldn’t count Alabama out in this recruitment heading into the fall.

Black’s decision timeline is still largely unknown a few weeks from the start of his senior season at Connally High School. It sounds like he wants to enjoy the recruiting process during the fall. But it’s also not out of the realm of possibility that Simmons’ commitment to Texas helps speed up his decision timeline.

Texas still looks like the leader in this recruitment heading into the fall. But almost every big Power Five program in the nation is pushing for Black, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he drags out the process for another few months ahead of signing day in December.
