The true freshman we’ve heard the most about in fall camp among the standouts thus far is wide receiver Johntay Cook II. Cook received praise from Sark multiple times in the last couple of weeks. Multiple teammates have also pinpointed him as a breakout player to watch among the true freshmen heading into the season.

Cook has worked hard throughout the offseason and put himself in a position to get live-game reps immediately during the season.

"“Well, when you first arrive and you’re a five-star and he’s been coached in a way that he believes in, and then you go to a new system or scheme, you have to learn the way that organization wants it done, whether it’s a specific route or a scheme or whatever. And what I’ve loved about Johntay right now is how coachable he is. I think he’s really trying to do what we’re asking of him to do.”"

How Sark speaks about Cook’s growth and talent shows a certain level of trust he has in his readiness to compete on the field this fall. Cook will certainly be one of the top four or five wideouts for Sark this season.

The five-star ranking Cook had coming out of high school did not get to his head when he arrived on campus for the spring semester. Like sophomore offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. last year, Cook got down to work immediately to prove he’ll contribute during the season.

Through the first two weeks of fall practice, Cook rotated the second-team reps at field receiver behind Worthy with redshirt junior wide receiver Isaiah Neyor. And with Worthy missing some practice time due to a nagging injury issue (per Orangebloods) late this week, Neyor received most of the first-team reps at field receiver. It sounds like Cook got the second-team reps behind Neyor in Worthy’s absence.
