Texas football is bound to continue to pick up more momentum on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class heading into the fall after landing a commitment from the elite five-star Duncanville (TX) edge rusher Colin Simmons on Aug. 10. Simmons was the “must-get” recruit for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian in the 2024 class late this summer.

The No. 1 ranked edge rusher recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking will create a draw to the Longhorns after a big summer spurt of momentum on the trail for this staff.

It’s hard not to find it appealing for a lot of the top prospects in Texas and other defensive priority recruits to play with one of the top talents in the nation in the 2024 class in Simmons. The top-rated Duncanville edge rusher is also the No. 1 ranked recruit in Texas in the 2024 class.

Priority 2024 and 2025 recruits Colin Simmons can help Texas football land

While landing Simmons won’t guarantee that the Longhorns will haul in a plethora of its top-priority recruits in the 2024 and 2025 classes heading into the fall, it certainly helps its case. Here’s a look at three priority recruits that Simmons can help the Longhorns land in the coming weeks and months.

Dakorien Moore, WR (LSU commit)

The most surprising commitment of this week from a Texas target in the 2025 class came on Aug. 12 when the elite five-star Duncanville wide receiver Dakorien Moore committed to the LSU Tigers over Texas and the USC Trojans. This commitment from Moore to LSU seemingly came out of the blue when it initially looked like the recruitment would be a patient process.

Despite Moore’s commitment to LSU, Texas will keep its foot on the gas with Moore. The reality in this recruitment is that it is a long way from over.

Texas was one of Moore’s top schools early in the 2025 cycle before his commitment to LSU roughly 24 hours ago. He visited Texas multiple times since last summer, including once for the Elite Camp in early June 2023.

It’s also worth mentioning that Simmons, Moore’s teammate at Duncanville High School, will continue to recruit him in the coming months. Between Sark’s track record recruiting, developing, and scheming wide receivers at the collegiate level and Simmons staying in Moore’s ear, it will be tough for the No. 1 prospect in Texas in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite to tell the Longhorns no when it’s all said and done.
