Kobe Black, CB

There is no bigger in-state defensive back recruitment for the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall than the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. According to most of the major recruiting services, the No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class has remained a top target for CB coach Terry Joseph and the Longhorns throughout the offseason.

Earlier this week, we mentioned on the site that Black was the recruit in the 2024 class that was “most impacted” by Simmons’ commitment to Texas. Simmons also stated following his commitment to Texas that Black is his “top priority” to recruit for the Longhorns heading into the fall.

Moreover, Black doesn’t have a set decision timeline at the moment. And there is talk of him drawing out his recruitment until closer to the Early Signing Period in mid-December so that he can take multiple visits this fall and enjoy the process.

But that was a thought for Black’s recruitment before Simmons committed to Texas, and the Longhorns picked up more momentum on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class before the season.

If Texas’ staff and the pressure from Simmons recruiting him as a Longhorns commit, can get in Black’s ear, they could potentially get him to move up his decision timeline. That would be the ideal scenario for Texas in this recruitment heading into the fall to prevent other schools from getting in Black’s ear if and when he visits elsewhere during the season.
