Regarding the strength of schedule, No. 11 ranked Texas football (in the preseason AP Poll) in the middle of the pack among the Power Five schools. According to The Lines, Texas has the 31st most difficult schedule in college football for the 2023 regular season. Texas is pegged by The Lines to have a much more difficult schedule on the road than at home this fall.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns will face three teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 away from home this season (No. 4 Alabama, No. 17 TCU, and No. 20 Oklahoma). Meanwhile, the Longhorns will face one ranked team at home this season (No. 16 Kansas State).

Moreover, this will be the last time for the foreseeable future that Texas will have a strength of schedule during the regular season that ranks in the middle of the pack among Power Five teams. With Texas set to leave the Big 12 for the SEC in 2024, the strength of the schedule is bound to permanently ramp up starting next year.

As the highest-rated team in the Big 12 in the preseason Coaches Poll and AP Poll, the time is now for Sark and the Longhorns to make a legitimate run at the conference title. Texas was also picked atop the media Big 12 preseason poll.

And while Texas does have some difficult opponents on the regular season slate, some teams are a bit overrated in the preseason polls and by most college football fans in 2023. Here’s a look at three of the most overrated teams on Texas’ schedule in 2023.
