The momentum is returning for the 2024 Texas football recruiting class heading into the fall. After landing a commitment from the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons on Aug. 10, Texas has its sights set on several other top blue-chips in the 2024 class late this summer.

There are quite a few blue-chip edge rushers that head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff are targeting in the 2024 class heading into the fall after getting Simmons in the boat. Three of the most notable edge rusher targets for the Longhorns in the 2024 class at the moment are five-star Birmingham (AL) Vestavia Hills product Jordan Ross, Allen four-star Zina Umeozulu, and Tulsa (OK) NOAH Homeschool four-star Danny Okoye.

The former of those three priority edge rusher recruits for the Longhorns in the 2024 class, Ross, has seemingly re-emerged on Texas’ radar after officially visiting Austin in June. Hank South of Horns247 reported on Aug. 14 (paid content) that the communication between Ross and Texas is “alive and well” late this summer.

One of Ross’s most common points of contact at Texas is reportedly Sark. Getting Sark involved in this recruitment signifies that Texas is seriously pursuing Ross heading into the fall. Sark was also one of Simmons’s primary points of contact through the thick of his recruitment.

Texas and Tennessee duking it out among Ross’s top schools

It sounds like the two schools heavily involved in this recruitment at the moment are the Tennessee Volunteers and Texas. Ross has visited Knoxville multiple times this year, including an official visit to Tennessee in late June.

Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that the Florida Gators are out of the running in this recruitment. Florida was viewed as one of Ross’s top schools during summer official visits. But the Gators aren’t involved in this recruitment heading into the fall.

That leaves Texas and Tennessee as the top two for Ross.

Ross reportedly wants to visit Texas for a game this fall

He told Horns247 that he plans to visit Texas unofficially for a game at DKR during the season. The exact weekend he plans to visit Texas for a game in Austin is unclear. But we will keep a keen eye on his visit plans as the season approaches in a few weeks.

Ross seems to be getting closer to a decision. He tweeted on Aug. 2 that he has a “commitment date coming soon”.
