Texas Football: Anthony Hill Jr. standing out early in fall practice
Last weekend, Texas football completed its first scrimmage of fall camp. Texas saw the defense come up big in the first scrimmage of fall camp on Aug. 12, with several younger players standing out.
The plethora of young talent that Texas has on the defensive side of the ball stepped up in a big way in the first fall scrimmage last weekend, namely true freshman linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and freshman cornerback Malik Muhammad.
The former of those two young talents among the true freshmen for Texas on defense, Hill, was getting after it in the scrimmage on Aug. 12. Hill is a force coming off the edge for Pete Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns in the pass rush.

And it sounds like Hill impacted the pass rush in the first fall scrimmage. Bobby Burton and Gerry Hamilton of On Texas Football/Inside Texas mentioned in the “Longhorn Livestream” following last weekend’s scrimmage that Hill was one of the top standouts during Saturday’s action at DKR.
It was also reported that Hill had a sack in the scrimmage from the weakside linebacker position.
This is a common theme for Hill to come up big in the pass rush from the linebacker or a hybridized edge rusher position. Hill has emerged as one of the standout true freshmen on defense throughout the first two weeks of fall practice.
During the post-scrimmage report last weekend, Burton mentioned that Hill is “having a whale of a camp” thus far.
"“The young man out of Denton-Ryan is apparently having a whale of a camp.”"
Separate of this post-scrimmage report on Aug. 12, Hamilton reported on Inside Texas on Aug. 13 that Hill is one of the five “freshmen impressing” through the first two weeks of fall practice. It looks like Hill is showing even more versatility and impact ability along the defensive front after putting on more size to his frame during summer workouts.
Hill is heading into the season at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds. He’s already got the size of a physical playmaking linebacker heading into his true freshman campaign this fall.
