The top priority for the 2024 Texas football recruiting class heading into the fall is the elite five-star Waco (TX) Connally cornerback Kobe Black. Texas has its sights fully set on getting Black in the 2024 class after landing a commitment from the top-ranked edge rusher recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons.

Texas has plenty of momentum in this recruitment heading into the fall. The Longhorns look like the school in pole position in the race to land a commitment from Black late this summer after multiple successful visits in the last couple of months.

Texas football gets another forecast for 5-Star priority CB Kobe Black

Black made an unofficial visit to Texas in late July before his official visit to College Station, TX, to see the Texas A&M Aggies on July 30. He also officially visited Austin during that big late-June OV weekend on campus.

Texas’ momentum in this recruitment is palpable, and some national insiders from the major recruiting services are noticing.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Mike Roach entered a Crystal Ball Prediction on Aug. 14 (with six out of 10 confidence) projecting Black’s commitment to Texas. Roach is tabbing Texas as the clear favorite to land Black’s commitment late this summer (per Roach’s write-up for the crystal ball on Aug. 14).

"“After speaking with a source familiar with this recruitment over the weekend, I believe that the Longhorns are the prohibitive favorite moving into the fall.”"

Roach mentions the Longhorns’ relationships in this recruitment as a big reason why Texas is in the pole position for Black. Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph, and head coach Steve Sarkisian have great connections with Black.

Joseph has recruited Black since before Texas offered the No. 1 cornerback recruit in Texas in the 2024 class in January 2022. Black’s relationship with Joseph goes back a couple of years.

Roach is the second 247Sports insider to enter a crystal ball projecting Black’s commitment to the Longhorns. Horns247 recruiting analyst Jordan Scruggs entered a crystal ball during Black’s official visit in late June, projecting his commitment to Texas (with six out of 10 confidence).

Black included Texas in his top five last week

Texas was among the five schools Black included among his finalists, which he announced on social media on Aug. 9. The other four finalists he named are the LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas A&M.

Another factor working in the Longhorns’ favor in this recruitment heading into the fall is Simmons’ commitment to Texas. Last week, we mentioned that Black was the recruit “most impacted” by Simmons’ commitment to the Longhorns on Aug. 10.

Simmons mentioned after his commitment to Texas on Aug. 10 that getting Black in this class is his “top priority” on the recruiting trail heading into the fall.
