Heading into the fall, Texas football is building ample momentum on the recruiting trail. Texas is trending up in the 2024 class late this summer after landing a commitment from the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian landed their “must-get” recruit in the 2024 class when Simmons gave his pledge on Aug. 10.

The job is far from done on the recruiting trail for Sark and the Longhorns staff in the 2024 class, though, heading into the fall. Texas still has a little less than half of the spots reserved for high school recruiting in the 2024 class to fill out before the Early Signing Period in mid-December.

There are also a few highly-anticipated decision dates from key Texas targets on the recruiting trail in the 2024 class in the coming weeks. A few notable decision dates upcoming for the Longhorns include five-star Lafayette (LA) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley on Sep. 1 and five-star Birmingham (AL) Vestavia Hills edge rusher Jordan Ross on Aug. 21.

That doesn’t even include the key Longhorns recruits in the 2024 class that could announce decision dates before the start of their senior seasons in high school.

Top priority recruits remaining for Texas football in the 2024 class heading into the fall

With all this in mind, here’s a look at three of the top remaining recruiting targets for the Longhorns in the 2024 class heading into the fall.

Brandon Baker, OT

The top priority at offensive tackle for offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and the Longhorns heading into the fall is the top-ranked offensive tackle recruit in the nation in the 2024 class in the 247Sports Composite and On3 Industry Ranking, Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei five-star Brandon Baker.

Texas is duking it out with the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks in this recruitment late this summer. Oregon once held a sizable lead in this recruitment early this offseason. But Texas and Ohio State made size moves to close the gap on the Ducks during the summer official visit season.

There is no clear leader in this recruitment at the moment. But it looks like Texas has as good of a chance as anyone, given Baker and his family’s confidence in Flood and how much they like the university’s academic strength.
