Texas Football: 3 standouts from first fall practice of the week
Ryan Niblett, WR
The lone summer enrollee at wide receiver for the Longhorns from the 2023 signing class is the speedy former four-star recruit out of Houston (TX) Aldine Eisenhower High School, true freshman Ryan Niblett. The 5-foot-10 and 165-pound speedster Niblett has done well in summer workouts and through the first half of fall camp since arriving on campus a few months ago.
We heard more positive feedback surrounding Niblett’s performance in the first fall practice of Week 3 in training camp than at any other point this offseason. Niblett reportedly is learning how to better use his speed and agility in the open field. He also made some big plays by making nice catches in team drills on Tuesday evening.
One play that stuck out for Niblett in team drills on Aug. 15 was a catch on a line drive pass from true freshman quarterback Arch Manning. Niblett reportedly ran a nice route and got open to catch the beautiful ball from Arch.
It sounds like that was one of many nice plays Niblett made with his hands and after the catch in space on Aug. 15.
Niblett will get his shot to earn a spot on the two-deep at wideout next year with some of the losses Texas could experience in the receiving corps following the 2023 season. Texas could be losing the likes of junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy, junior AD Mitchell, and redshirt senior Jordan Whittington either to the NFL Draft or to expiring eligibility next offseason.
